A Card for Grandma

Sophie worked carefully on a card for Grandma. She chose yellow paper because Grandma liked yellow flowers. She wrote the letters slowly and drew a little chair beside a window.
When Dad offered to mail it, Sophie added one more sentence about looking forward to their next visit. She wanted Grandma to know she was loved, not just to see a pretty card.
Jesus teaches us to love God with our whole heart and to love our neighbor. Loving people includes paying attention to them. A card cannot do everything, but it can carry kind words across a long distance. Sophie could not drive to Grandma's house. She could remember what Grandma liked, speak with her on the telephone, and show care with the small things she was able to do.
A small step for today
Jesus taught that loving God and loving our neighbour matter deeply. Listen to His word and take His instructions seriously. Then look for a kind thing to do for someone nearby. Help with a task or include a child who is alone. Love has room in ordinary actions, not only in the words we say.
For the grown-up reading along
Jesus identifies love for God as the greatest commandment and love for our neighbor as the second. Love for people belongs under wholehearted love for God, not in competition with it.
