Emma wanted to carry every library book by herself. She lifted the bag, took three steps, and set it down. The handles hurt her fingers. Her father held out his hand, but Emma tried once more before giving him the bag.
He carried it while she walked beside him with one small book. They reached the car together. Emma had not needed to prove that she was strong enough for the whole load.
Jesus invites burdened people to come to Him. A heavy bag is only a small picture of needing help. Jesus can give rest to a troubled heart and teach us His good way. Emma could ask her father for help with books. She could also learn to trust the Saviour who welcomes those who need Him.
A small step for today
Jesus welcomes the weary to come to Him. His words tell us about His gentle care and His authority to teach us. Read them slowly with a grown-up. You can tell someone when you feel worn out or troubled. Rest and help are good gifts, and learning from the Saviour gives comfort deeper than finishing a difficult day.
