The Blanket Fort Rule

Therefore whosoever heareth these sayings of mine, and doeth them, I will liken him unto a wise man, which built his house upon a rock:
Matthew 7:24 KJV
This is an original fictional illustration, not a historical report or an added Bible event.
Ethan and Rose built a blanket fort between two chairs. Ethan wanted the roof to be high enough for him to stand inside. He balanced a broom across the chair backs and pulled the heavy blanket over it.
Mother asked them to use the shorter table instead. The chairs could tip, and the broom might fall. Ethan nodded, but after she left the room he kept working on the tall roof. He thought being careful would make the warning unnecessary.
Before Rose crawled inside, one chair began to lean. Ethan caught the blanket and called for Mother. Nothing struck either child, but the fort was suddenly lying in a heap on the floor.
Mother helped them put away the broom. Ethan admitted that he had heard her instruction and chosen his own way. They moved the blanket over the table, tucked the corners safely, and spread cushions underneath.
The second fort was lower, but it stayed in place. Ethan and Rose brought picture books and a battery lamp inside. When their little brother joined them, they had room for him without making the roof taller.
Jesus teaches that hearing His words and doing them belong together. Agreeing with good instruction is not the same as following it. Ethan had nodded with his head while keeping his own plan in his hands. Learning to obey meant changing what he built. The safe little fort gave them a whole afternoon of quiet fun.
For the grown-up reading along
Jesus compares those who hear and obey His teaching to a wise builder. Hearing the truth should lead to doing what He says.
Read the KJV passage aloud. Explain unfamiliar words in ordinary language without changing the quotation.
