The Kite with the Patch

Lucas wanted the bright new kite in the shop window. His own kite had a patch near the tail. When Dad suggested taking it to the field, Lucas almost stayed home.
The old kite lifted in the wind and pulled firmly on the string. Lucas ran beside Dad, laughing as the tail curled above them. The patch was still there, but it had not stopped a good afternoon.
The Bible teaches us to be content and remember the Lord's faithful presence. That does not mean we can never enjoy something new. It means we do not have to despise what we have while waiting for it. Lucas still liked the shop-window kite. He was also learning to enjoy the one already in his hands and the father walking beside him.
A small step for today
Wanting more things can make it hard to enjoy what you have. Remember the Lord's care and practise being thankful. You can ask for what you need without believing that every wanted thing must be yours. God knows His people. His faithful presence matters more than keeping up with someone else's collection of toys or clothes.
For the grown-up reading along
The writer joins contentment and freedom from covetousness to God's promise of His presence. The assurance rests in Him rather than in possessions or an absence of opposition.
