Bless the LORD, O my soul, and forget not all his benefits:
Psalm 103:2 KJV
This is an original fictional illustration, not a historical report or an added Bible event.
When the school trip ended, Isla wanted to tell everyone about the animals. She described the sleepy lion, the noisy parrots, and the goat that tried to nibble her coat sleeve.
Mother listened, then mentioned the people who had helped the day happen. A neighbor had driven Isla to school early. The teacher had packed extra water. A parent helper had stayed with Isla when she could not find her group near the reptile house.
Isla had remembered every animal and almost forgotten every person who helped her enjoy them. She took three small cards from the craft box and drew a different animal on each one. Under the pictures she wrote what each person had done for her.
The next morning she delivered the cards. Her teacher put the parrot picture beside her desk. The neighbor laughed at the goat and said she was glad Isla had enjoyed the day.
That evening Isla and Mother read the verse about remembering the Lord's benefits. Mother explained that all good gifts give us reason to thank God. We can also thank the people He uses to care for us.
Isla still loved telling the story of the goat. Now her story included the neighbor's early drive and the helper's patient hand. Gratitude helped her see more of the day than the things that had entertained her. Remembering kindness made the happy memory richer.
For the grown-up reading along
David calls his soul to bless the Lord and remember His benefits. Thankfulness pays attention to God's goodness instead of allowing it to fade from memory.
