Rest and Right Paths Belong Together

The LORD is my shepherd; I shall not want. He maketh me to lie down in green pastures: he leadeth me beside the still waters. He restoreth my soul: he leadeth me in the paths of righteousness for his name’s sake.

Psalm 23 is often read when people need comfort. That is a good use of a psalm that speaks so warmly about the Lord's care. Notice that the Shepherd also leads in paths of righteousness.
God's care is not limited to helping us feel better. He directs us toward what is right. Sometimes that means leaving a wrong choice behind, accepting correction, or doing a difficult duty with His help.
The rest of the psalm includes a dark valley, so following the Shepherd does not promise that every day will be easy. His presence remains precious there too. Receive His comfort and His direction together. Read what He has said, follow the instruction you understand, and ask for help with what is unclear. A faithful shepherd cares about where the sheep are going as well as where they can rest.
Bring the truth into your day
Psalm 23 describes the Lord's care through a shepherd's work. Rest, restoration, and guidance belong together. Read the entire psalm so that the peaceful opening stays connected to the valley that follows. God's care is not measured only by pleasant surroundings. Believers can depend on Him in difficult places too. Receive ordinary rest and wise guidance gratefully, remembering that the shepherd leads according to His character and purposes.
Keep the passage in context
David speaks of the LORD as his shepherd, who provides, restores, and leads in righteousness for His name's sake. The rest of the psalm includes danger, so this is not a promise of uninterrupted ease.
