Stillness That Remembers God

Written for Bible Journey Plan. Our editorial standards.

Be still, and know that I am God: I will be exalted among the heathen, I will be exalted in the earth.

Psalm 46:10 KJV

A noisy day can leave your thoughts feeling crowded. It is good to step away from needless distraction and give careful attention to Scripture. Yet Psalm 46 teaches something greater than the value of a quiet room. God is exalted among the nations and in the earth.

Being still before Him includes recognizing that you are not in charge of everything. The Lord does not lose His authority when events feel confusing or when you cannot predict what comes next. Your responsibility is to trust Him and obey the truth He has given.

Read the whole psalm and notice how much trouble it describes. The comfort rests in God's presence and power within that setting. You do not need to wait for every difficult circumstance to disappear before remembering who He is.

Set aside a little time to listen to His Word without competing voices. Let what you learn shape your next action. Stillness should help you return to the day with a humbler confidence, aware that the world's weight has never belonged on your shoulders and that faithful obedience is still available.

Keep the passage in context

Psalm 46 presents God's supremacy amid upheaval and conflict. The call to be still recognizes His authority, not simply a technique for making ourselves feel relaxed.
