The Captain Who Carried the Equipment

When Grace became team captain, she expected to lead the warm-up. She did not expect the equipment bag to split beside the bus. Balls rolled down the pavement while the younger players stood watching.
Grace set down her own bag and started collecting them. Then she showed two teammates how to carry the damaged bag between them. The coach still asked her to lead the warm-up, but the team had already seen something useful about leadership.
Jesus corrected disciples who wanted high positions. Greatness among His people includes serving. He Himself came to give His life a ransom for many. That saving work belongs to Him alone. Our small acts of service cannot pay for sin, but they can follow His example of giving rather than grasping. Grace's title mattered less that morning than her willingness to pick up a ball.
Bring the truth into your day
The disciples needed a different understanding of greatness. Jesus pointed them toward service and then spoke of His own life given as a ransom. Keep both truths in view. His saving work is unique, and His example changes how His followers use responsibility. If you lead a group, make the task clearer and share the burden. Authority should benefit the people entrusted to you rather than becoming a way to demand special treatment.

Jesus corrects His disciples' desire for status and presents His own service and ransom as the pattern. His saving death is unique; our service does not add to His atonement.
