The heart of the prudent getteth knowledge; and the ear of the wise seeketh knowledge.
Proverbs 18:15 KJV

Noah was certain the old object in the museum case was a cooking pot. It had a handle, a wide opening, and a dark mark near the bottom. He explained his conclusion to his younger cousins before reading the label.
The label identified it as part of a lamp. Noah glanced at the words and decided the museum must have made a mistake. His cousin Grace read the description aloud, including the explanation of where the wick and oil had been placed.
Noah felt embarrassed. He had enjoyed being the knowledgeable one in the group. Admitting the correction seemed harder than understanding the object. He began listing all the reasons it still looked like a pot.
A guide nearby invited them to look at a drawing showing the lamp in use. The dark mark came from smoke, and the small channel near the handle held the wick. Once Noah saw the drawing, the explanation made sense. He thanked the guide and told his cousins that his first guess had been wrong.
They continued through the room with a different habit. Noah still offered ideas, but he called them guesses until he had read the information. Grace noticed a detail on the next display that he had missed, and he listened instead of correcting her immediately.
At the end of the visit, Noah chose a booklet about ancient lamps from the museum shop. The object he first misunderstood had become one of the most interesting things he saw. Admitting he did not know everything had opened a door to learning more.
God's Word commends a heart that seeks knowledge. We should examine information carefully, but examination is different from protecting our pride. Noah did not need to accept every claim without thought. He needed to give clear evidence a fair hearing. Being corrected did not make him less useful to his cousins. It gave him a chance to show how an honest learner responds when the truth is better than his first explanation. A teachable spirit can turn an embarrassing moment into the beginning of real understanding.
Keep the passage in context
Proverbs describes an understanding heart as one that seeks knowledge. Wisdom remains willing to learn rather than defending an answer simply because it was our first idea.
