The Thank-You Note Still Blank

IT IS A GOOD THING TO GIVE THANKS UNTO THE LORD, AND TO SING PRAISES UNTO THY NAME, O MOST HIGH:
Psalm 92:1 KJV

The new sketchbook lay open on Lily's desk. Her aunt had chosen it because the thick paper would hold watercolor without wrinkling. Lily had already painted three pictures and planned several more.
Beside the sketchbook sat a blank thank-you card. Each evening Lily meant to write it after finishing one more picture. The painting felt interesting, while the card felt like an interruption to the gift she was enjoying.
A week passed before Mother mentioned that Aunt May wondered whether the parcel had arrived. Lily felt surprised. She had been so pleased with the sketchbook that she assumed her aunt somehow knew. Enjoyment inside her room had not communicated anything to the person who sent it.
Lily put down her brush and wrote a specific note. She described the thick paper, the first landscape she painted, and the care her aunt had taken in remembering what she liked. She included a small painting and helped address the envelope properly.
Aunt May called after receiving it. She was glad the sketchbook was useful and enjoyed hearing about the pictures. The conversation reminded Lily that the gift had come through a relationship, not simply appeared as another object on her desk.
During Bible reading, Lily heard that it is good to give thanks to the Lord. She began noticing how easily she received ordinary blessings without expressing gratitude to Him. Food, family care, useful abilities, and the gospel itself deserved more than being quietly taken for granted.
Thankfulness is not a fee paid to secure the next gift. It is a truthful response to kindness already received. Lily did not need an elaborate card to prove her gratitude. She needed to stop postponing a simple expression of it. The unfinished note had revealed how quickly enjoyment could crowd out acknowledgment. Her sketchbook continued filling with pictures, but she wanted her life to have room for thanks as well. A grateful heart learns to look beyond what it has received and remember the giver with honest, willing words.
Keep the passage in context
Psalm 92 declares that giving thanks to the Lord is good. Gratitude should be expressed rather than assumed to exist silently behind our enjoyment of His gifts.
