Decisions for the People Outside

A couple can spend money they do not have to impress people who will not help carry the bill. Approval is an uncertain master. Once it governs a decision, another person's opinion begins reaching further into the home than it should.

Proverbs calls the fear of man a snare. The trap may be fear of criticism, embarrassment, or being seen as less successful. It can keep us from making a sensible choice we already know is needed.

Trusting the Lord does not mean ignoring wise advice. It means refusing to give human approval the authority that belongs to Him. Your marriage needs truthful decisions more than it needs an impressive account for outsiders.

Discuss one choice without asking how it will look to everyone else. Consider Scripture, real responsibilities, and sound counsel. You may still disappoint someone's expectations. That is not the same as failing God. A modest, faithful decision can bring more peace to a home than a costly attempt to keep appearances alive.
