Do the Good That Belongs to Today
Written for Bible Journey Plan. Our editorial standards.
Trust in the LORD, and do good; so shalt thou dwell in the land, and verily thou shalt be fed.
Psalm 37:3 KJV
Thinking about the future can become a way to avoid the responsibility already within reach. We discuss how things will improve after a move, retirement, a promotion, or a quieter season while today's kindness remains undone.
Psalm 37 joins trust with doing good. Faith gives us reason to act faithfully where we are. The next useful step may be small and familiar, but it does not need to wait for a different life.
Choose the good available in your marriage today. Keep the promise, make the apology, share the task, or give the attentive time you have been postponing. Plans for tomorrow are more credible when they grow from dependable conduct now.
This verse is not a formula for obtaining every desired earthly result. It directs God's people toward trustful faithfulness. Let that direction simplify the day. You cannot settle all the years ahead before supper, but you can treat the person beside you with care. Ordinary obedience has a value that the excitement of a future plan cannot replace. Begin where the Lord has placed your actual responsibility.
Keep the passage in context
David calls God's people to trust the LORD and do good while living faithfully in the place given them. Trust and responsible conduct belong together.
