Fruitfulness after a Painful Season

And the name of the second called he Ephraim: For God hath caused me to be fruitful in the land of my affliction.
Genesis 41:52 KJV
Joseph did not have to deny that Egypt had been a place of affliction in order to recognize God's goodness there. His words hold suffering and gratitude within the same honest account.
Couples may reach a season of new usefulness after illness, loss, disappointment, or prolonged uncertainty. Receive the good with thanks without feeling required to describe the earlier pain as easy or desirable.
The account does not promise that every earthly sorrow will lead to visible success like Joseph's. His role in preserving life was part of God's particular purpose in Genesis. We should not use it to measure another person's recovery or demand a public success story from their suffering.
Notice whatever faithful work is available now. It may be quieter than the life you once expected. Encourage one another in the ability, time, and opportunity the Lord has given today. Gratitude can coexist with memories that still hurt. A marriage becomes more truthful when both are allowed to be spoken, and more hopeful when new mercies are received without pretending the affliction never existed.
Keep the passage in context
Joseph names Ephraim in recognition of God's making him fruitful in the land of his affliction. His gratitude acknowledges both real suffering and real provision.
