Honor the Care That Has Become Familiar

Written for Bible Journey Plan. Our editorial standards.

Her children arise up, and call her blessed; her husband also, and he praiseth her.

Proverbs 31:28 KJV

Care repeated over many years can become so familiar that no one thinks to name it. The household continues because someone keeps noticing, planning, preparing, and following through.

The husband in Proverbs 31 gives praise. He does not treat faithful care as unworthy of acknowledgment because it belongs to ordinary responsibility. Recognition is appropriate when it is truthful and grateful.

Express appreciation for the person, not only the output. Notice wisdom, perseverance, generosity, and the thought behind practical work. Then support that care through shared responsibility and reasonable rest. Praise should not become a way to keep someone carrying an unsustainable load.

This chapter should never be used as a checklist for shaming a wife who has different abilities, health, resources, or circumstances. Its picture honors faithful character. Let that honor shape the way you speak at home. The person nearest you may already know what remains unfinished. Make sure they also hear what you have seen and valued. Gratitude spoken while service is still being given is a kindness worth offering now.

Keep the passage in context
