Mercy in an Unfinished Week

Some weeks do not end neatly. The concern from Monday remains on Friday, and both people are tired of carrying it. We may begin treating each other as though exhaustion has cancelled the need for kindness.

Lamentations speaks about fresh mercies in the middle of devastation. The passage does not deny sorrow or promise that a difficult season will finish by morning. It locates hope in the faithfulness of God while the grief is still real.

That truth changes what I bring into an unfinished day. I can acknowledge that the burden is heavy without deciding there is no mercy left. I can also remember that my spouse is beside me in the trouble, not simply another obstacle within it.

Notice one mercy together without forcing a cheerful account of everything. Give thanks for a meal, help received, or strength for a necessary task. Then offer your spouse some of the patience you have needed yourself. A hard week is not beyond the reach of God's compassion.
