Choose the Road Christ Actually Describes
Choose the Road Christ Actually Describes: an original Matthew 7:13-14 KJV devotional with biblical context and practical application.
“Enter ye in at the strait gate: for wide is the gate, and broad is the way, that leadeth to destruction, and many there be which go in thereat: Because strait is the gate, and narrow is the way, which leadeth unto life, and few there be that find it.”
Matthew 7:13-14 KJV
The number of people taking a road does not establish its destination. Jesus warns that a broad and well-traveled way can still lead toward destruction. His words require us to evaluate life by truth rather than by the reassurance of a crowd.
Read the passage carefully
The narrow way should not be confused with earning salvation through unusual severity, social isolation, or a list of personal rules. The gospel directs sinners to Christ, whose finished work alone saves. Following Him does involve repentance and obedience, but those responses cannot replace Him as the source of life. A religious path can be demanding and still be wrong if it rests upon human merit instead of God's grace.
Listen carefully to the message you are trusting. Determine whether it agrees with Scripture about sin, Christ, His death and resurrection, and salvation through faith. Do not assume that a confident speaker, impressive building, or large audience settles the matter. Nor does a small audience automatically prove faithfulness. Truth remains the standard in either setting, and Scripture must be allowed to correct the group as well as the individual.
Carry this truth into the day
Jesus' warning is serious because the destination matters. Receive it with humility rather than using it to feel superior to other people. Those who know the Saviour have reason for gratitude and a responsibility to speak His gospel lovingly. Make the response personal. Trust Christ, turn from the sin His Word exposes, and continue walking with Him through the ordinary choices of the day. A faithful road may lack the approval you once sought, but the One who calls you onto it is worthy of more confidence than any crowd can supply.
Why the setting matters
Jesus speaks of a narrow gate and a way leading to life, contrasted with the broad way leading to destruction. His warning calls for a real response rather than confidence in the popularity of a path.
