A few quiet minutes in Scripture

Follow the Truth You Have Received

Follow the Truth You Have Received: an original Matthew 1:24-25 KJV devotional with biblical context and practical application.

“Then Joseph being raised from sleep did as the angel of the Lord had bidden him, and took unto him his wife: And knew her not till she had brought forth her firstborn son: and he called his name JESUS.”

Matthew 1:24-25 KJV

Joseph's response is described through action. He did what the Lord's messenger had commanded. The account does not give us a long speech about his courage or a record of every conversation he then faced. It shows obedience moving into the next responsibility.

Read the passage carefully

God had spoken to Joseph in an extraordinary way about the birth of Christ. Our ordinary responsibility is to obey the clear teaching He has preserved in Scripture. We should not wait for a dream to confirm a command already given. Truthfulness, purity, care for others, and faithfulness in rightful commitments do not become optional while we search for a more personal sign.

It is possible to admire obedience while continually postponing our own. We collect advice, explain the difficulty, and discuss the principle without taking the practical step it requires. Some decisions need more information, but others need a willing response to information already understood. Identify the difference carefully. If the duty is clear, make a plan that actually reaches action rather than adding another discussion about why action would be valuable.

Carry this truth into the day

Christ's grace gives both forgiveness for our failures and a new reason to obey. We do not earn acceptance with God by becoming as dependable as Joseph appears in this passage. We receive salvation through the Saviour Joseph was told to name, and then seek to walk faithfully as His people. Let the next act be simple and honest. Keep the promise, correct the misleading statement, make the necessary arrangement, or turn from the practice you know is wrong. Joseph's quiet response reminds us that faith becomes visible in conduct even when no audience is present to celebrate the decision or measure the cost it required.

Why the setting matters

Joseph obeys the angel's instruction, takes Mary as his wife, and names the child Jesus. His response confirms his acceptance of God's explanation and command.
