A few quiet minutes in Scripture

Let a Changed Life Speak with Growing Clarity

Let a Changed Life Speak with Growing Clarity: an original Acts 9:20-22 KJV devotional with biblical context and practical application.

“And straightway he preached Christ in the synagogues, that he is the Son of God. But all that heard him were amazed, and said; Is not this he that destroyed them which called on this name in Jerusalem, and came hither for that intent, that he might bring them bound unto the chief priests? But Saul increased the more in strength, and confounded the Jews which dwelt at Damascus, proving that this is very Christ.”

Acts 9:20-22 KJV

The change in Saul's message was striking because his former purpose was known. The man who came to arrest believers now proclaimed the Christ they trusted. His witness began with the central truth about Jesus rather than an attempt to make his own story the main attraction.

Read the passage carefully

A testimony can help people understand the effect of grace, but it should point beyond the storyteller. Dramatic details of a sinful past should not be exaggerated or celebrated. The important matter is the Saviour who forgives and the truth that now governs the life. A quiet conversion is no less real because it lacks a public history like Saul's.

New believers need room to grow. Encourage clear witness to what they understand while providing patient instruction in what they have not yet learned. Do not place someone in a demanding teaching role simply because a striking testimony attracts attention. Character, understanding, and dependable conduct matter. The church serves both the new believer and future hearers by allowing maturity to develop responsibly.

Carry this truth into the day

Christ's grace gives a person something true to say before every question has been answered. Explain simply that He died for sinners, rose again, and is worthy of personal trust. Admit when you need help with a further question, then seek a sound answer. Saul grew in strength, and growth remains part of Christian life. Let your witness become clearer through Scripture and obedience rather than through more impressive language. People may still remember your earlier conduct, and rebuilding trust may take time. Continue truthfully. A changed message gains credibility when the daily life increasingly agrees with the Saviour whose name it now proclaims.

Why the setting matters

Saul begins proclaiming Jesus as the Son of God in Damascus. Those who knew his former purpose are astonished, while his understanding and witness grow stronger.
