A few quiet minutes in Scripture

The Only Saviour Is Enough

The Only Saviour Is Enough: an original Acts 4:8-12 KJV devotional with biblical context and practical application.

“Then Peter, filled with the Holy Ghost, said unto them, Ye rulers of the people, and elders of Israel, If we this day be examined of the good deed done to the impotent man, by what means he is made whole; Be it known unto you all, and to all the people of Israel, that by the name of Jesus Christ of Nazareth, whom ye crucified, whom God raised from the dead, even by him doth this man stand here before you whole. This is the stone which was set at nought of you builders, which is become the head of the corner. Neither is there salvation in any other: for there is none other name under heaven given among men, whereby we must be saved.”

Acts 4:8-12 KJV

Peter did not offer Jesus as one useful addition to an already sufficient religious life. He declared that salvation is found in no other. The claim is definite because the Person and work of Christ are unique. No other has provided the sinless sacrifice and risen victory sinners need.

Read the passage carefully

This truth should produce gratitude and faithful witness rather than arrogance. Christians are not saved because they belong to a naturally better class of people. They are saved by grace through faith in the same Saviour every neighbor needs. We should therefore speak clearly about Christ while treating those who disagree with respect and genuine concern.

Do not allow the desire to sound agreeable to remove the heart of the gospel. Good intentions, moral effort, family religion, and sincere ceremonies cannot replace His finished work. At the same time, avoid presenting truth as though harshness makes it stronger. Explain patiently, answer honestly, and acknowledge when you need to study a matter further. Confidence in the Saviour does not require pretending to know everything about every religious question.

Carry this truth into the day

For the believer, Christ's sufficiency also brings rest. You do not need a second source of spiritual security to complete what He has accomplished. Continue learning and obeying, but keep those responses in their proper place as fruits of grace. When guilt troubles you, return to His sacrifice rather than inventing a payment He never required. Peter stood before powerful listeners with a message larger than the immediate dispute. The healed man's condition raised a question, and the answer led to the only Saviour. Let every part of Christian teaching retain that center, where the hope offered is as clear as the Lord who provides it.

Why the setting matters

Peter answers the rulers concerning the healed man and declares salvation in Jesus Christ alone. His message identifies the rejected and risen Saviour as the indispensable foundation of hope.
