The Risen Lord Sends His People with a Promise
The Risen Lord Sends His People with a Promise: an original Matthew 28:18-20 KJV devotional with biblical context and practical application.
“And Jesus came and spake unto them, saying, All power is given unto me in heaven and in earth. Go ye therefore, and teach all nations, baptizing them in the name of the Father, and of the Son, and of the Holy Ghost: Teaching them to observe all things whatsoever I have commanded you: and, lo, I am with you alway, even unto the end of the world. Amen.”
Matthew 28:18-20 KJV
The command begins with Christ's authority. The disciples were not inventing a movement or carrying a message whose truth depended upon their confidence. The risen Lord sent them, and His victory supplied the foundation for the work ahead.
Read the passage carefully
The commission includes more than obtaining a quick profession. It calls for disciples taught to observe what Christ commanded, with baptism marking their public identification with Him. Baptism does not create salvation, and teaching must not be separated from the gospel of grace. People need the Saviour Himself and then the patient instruction that helps them understand a life of obedience.
Take part through the responsibilities and opportunities given to you. Speak the gospel clearly, support faithful mission work, welcome learners, and help new believers become established in a sound local church. Avoid pressure that confuses a forced answer with genuine faith. Treat people respectfully, answer questions honestly, and distinguish Scripture's authority from your own preferences. Faithful witness can be direct without becoming manipulative.
Carry this truth into the day
Christ's promised presence gives courage for a task larger than any individual can complete. We still need preparation, cooperation, and dependence upon the Holy Ghost. The promise does not make care unnecessary; it assures us that the Lord has not sent His people alone. Begin with the person or responsibility already within reach. A truthful conversation, a well-taught lesson, or steady support for another worker can serve the same commission. The Gospel closes with a living Saviour whose authority extends beyond the grave and whose presence continues with His people as they carry His word into the ordinary places where human lives need His saving grace.
Why the setting matters
After His resurrection, Jesus declares His authority and commissions His disciples to make disciples, baptize, and teach obedience. He joins the commission with His continuing presence.
