1 Samuel 19:18

"So David fled, and escaped, and came to Samuel to Ramah, and told him all that Saul had done to him. And he and Samuel went and dwelt in Naioth." (1 Samuel 19:18)

"David fled, and escaped." He is not chasing a fight. He is trying to live and obey God. David goes, "to Samuel to Ramah." He runs to spiritual shelter. Samuel is the one who had privately anointed David, so David tells the truth to the right person.

David did seek help from a godly man, but the verse also shows why he went and what he did when he got there.

I don't see David running to Samuel as a "problem eraser." I see him running to a place of godly leadership and spiritual order. He is seeking refuge and counsel, not a magic reset.

David is still moving forward in the will of God. The verse says, "So David fled, and escaped..." He took the right steps he could take, and then he went where he could be strengthened.

I should not be afraid first take my burden to God, and then I can bring it to a faithful pastor or preacher for counsel and prayer. This is without expecting the pastor to carry what only God can carry.

Don't run to church to hide from obedience, run to church to be helped back into obedience, meaning serving, praying, and continuing in the work of the Lord.

Church is a hospital and an armory, not an escape hatch. God uses preaching and godly counsel to strengthen me, but the Lord Himself is the burden, bearer.
