Rest and Review

Read 2 Samuel 19:9–23 again. This day in the study plan is reserved for rest and review, so no separate written reflection accompanies it.

Look again at Israel’s discussion about bringing David back, David’s appeal to Judah, Shimei’s confession, Abishai’s demand for judgment, and the king’s decision to show mercy on a day of restoration.

Ask: What does the passage reveal about returning to the rightful king? Where do I see both justice and mercy? How should receiving mercy shape the way I respond to someone who humbles himself and asks forgiveness?

Use the pause to review the lessons that have appeared throughout David’s life: wait for God’s timing, refuse personal revenge, listen to wise counsel, confess sin plainly, and remember that the LORD remains faithful even when people and kingdoms are unsettled.
