I Do Remember My Faults This Day

Then spake the chief butler unto Pharaoh, saying, I do remember my faults this day:

Pharaoh was wroth with his servants, and put me in ward in the captain of the guard’s house, both me and the chief baker:

And we dreamed a dream in one night, I and he; we dreamed each man according to the interpretation of his dream.

And there was there with us a young man, an Hebrew, servant to the captain of the guard; and we told him, and he interpreted to us our dreams; to each man according to his dream he did interpret.

Scripture Review
The chief butler finally speaks: “I do remember my faults this day.” Pharaoh’s troubled dream reaches into a memory that two peaceful years did not awaken. The butler recounts his imprisonment, the two dreams, the young Hebrew servant, and the exact fulfillment of both interpretations. Joseph’s name returns to the palace attached to evidence, not advertisement.
I notice that the butler calls his forgetfulness part of his faults. Remembering late is better than never remembering, but delay had a cost for Joseph. Repentance does not defend the years by saying everything eventually worked out. It owns the failure and then does what should have been done. God can use even a late confession, yet I should not make His ability to redeem my neglect an excuse for neglect.
The butler had meant to resume his life without Joseph, but Pharaoh’s need brought his forgotten duty and Joseph’s proven gift back to mind.
God meant to make the butler remember on the day his testimony would place Joseph before Pharaoh for a national purpose.
What this asks of me
When the Lord brings a forgotten duty to mind, I should act instead of explaining the delay. A late apology, payment, promise, or word of gratitude may not recover every lost day, but obedience begins now. I also learn that God can cause truthful work from long ago to speak at the right time.

- Will I correct it today rather than use the delay as another reason to wait?
