A Man in Whom the Spirit of God Is

Scripture Review
The counsel is good in the eyes of Pharaoh and his servants. Pharaoh asks whether anyone can be found like Joseph, “a man in whom the Spirit of God is.” He then declares that no one is as discreet and wise and sets Joseph over his house and people, second only to Pharaoh. The prisoner who refused to claim the interpretation is trusted with carrying out the plan.
Joseph’s humility did not make him less useful; it made the source of his usefulness clear. Pharaoh sees wisdom, but Joseph has already named God. Promotion does not create Joseph’s character. It reveals what was formed in service and suffering. Authority is safest in the hands of someone who has learned that the answer is not in himself.
Pharaoh meant to place the most proven and wise available man over Egypt’s preparation because the crisis demanded competent authority.
God meant to exalt Joseph at the appointed hour and place a God-honoring steward over the provision that would save many people alive.
What this asks of me
I should not chase a title while neglecting the character required to carry it. If God enlarges my responsibility, the habits formed in hidden places will come with me. I need wisdom, humility, and dependence upon the Lord more than recognition. Promotion is a place to serve, not proof that I have become the source.
Consider
- Am I asking for greater influence while resisting the hidden preparation it requires?
- Would promotion make God’s wisdom or my importance more visible in the way I lead?
