A Different Direction after Salvation
Written for Bible Journey Plan. Our editorial standards.
Therefore we are buried with him by baptism into death: that like as Christ was raised up from the dead by the glory of the Father, even so we also should walk in newness of life.
Romans 6:4 KJV
The Christian life is not an old direction decorated with a new religious label. Belonging to Christ changes the meaning of our lives. Paul connects the believer's walk with the Lord's death and resurrection and teaches that new life should become visible in conduct.
Baptism is an act of obedience that identifies a believer with Christ. The water does not wash away sin or replace personal faith in the Saviour. Christ's finished work saves; obedience follows.
Consider the habits you have excused simply because they are familiar. A cruel form of humor, a dishonest shortcut, or a private pattern of impurity should not be protected by the claim that this is just who you are. The Lord calls His people to a different walk and supplies grace for growth.
Change may require accountability, patient learning, and practical steps that close familiar opportunities for sin. Seek wise help instead of defending the pattern. You do not earn new life by changing yourself. Because you belong to Christ, you have reason to stop treating the old way as the only way available and begin obeying the truth He has given.
Keep the passage in context
Paul describes the believer's union with Christ in His death and resurrection, pictured in baptism, and calls for walking in newness of life. Baptism does not purchase salvation.
