A Witness with Something True to Say
Written for Bible Journey Plan. Our editorial standards.
But ye shall receive power, after that the Holy Ghost is come upon you: and ye shall be witnesses unto me both in Jerusalem, and in all Judaea, and in Samaria, and unto the uttermost part of the earth.
Acts 1:8 KJV
You do not need a dramatic personality to care about someone else's soul. A Christian witness tells the truth about Jesus Christ and relies upon the Lord rather than treating the conversation as a display of personal confidence.
Learn the gospel clearly. Jesus is the Son of God. He died for our sins and rose again. Salvation comes by grace through faith in Him, with no religious ceremony or good deed added as payment. A vague invitation to become more spiritual leaves out the message people need.
Speak kindly and listen carefully. If you do not know an answer, admit it and seek sound help from Scripture. Pressure, ridicule, and invented certainty do not improve a witness.
Your conduct should agree with the truth you share. Honest work and thoughtful kindness cannot save someone, but they can keep your own behavior from arguing against your words. Depend upon the Lord, make use of appropriate opportunities, and remember that the gospel's power belongs to God. You are responsible to speak faithfully, not to manufacture another person's response through cleverness or force.
Keep the passage in context
The risen Lord promises the Holy Ghost's power and commissions His disciples as witnesses. The message concerns Christ and advances through dependence upon His power.
