Carrying Your Part
Go to the ant, thou sluggard; consider her ways, and be wise: Which having no guide, overseer, or ruler, Provideth her meat in the summer, and gathereth her food in the harvest.
Proverbs 6:6-8 KJV
Being dependable includes more than doing a task after the fifth reminder. It means learning what belongs to you and making a reasonable plan to carry it. Proverbs directs our attention to preparation that does not depend on constant supervision.
This is not a command to measure your worth by exhaustion. Rest and help have a proper place. Some tasks require instruction, and some limits are real. Diligence asks for what is needed instead of using uncertainty as a permanent hiding place.
Look at the week ahead. Begin the assignment, check the equipment, and communicate about a commitment you cannot meet. Do not leave every consequence of delay for somebody else to absorb. Ordinary responsibility is part of loving the people who share life with you.
Keep the passage in context
The ant illustrates diligence and preparation in a passage warning against laziness. Wisdom attends to needed work without constant supervision. Rest, illness, disability, and asking for help are not the same as laziness.
