Courage with a Place to Stand

Written for Bible Journey Plan. Our editorial standards.

The LORD is my light and my salvation; whom shall I fear? the LORD is the strength of my life; of whom shall I be afraid?

Psalm 27:1 KJV

Fear can make an uncertain situation feel larger than everything else in your life. A difficult conversation, an unfamiliar place, or a serious problem can occupy your attention long before it arrives.

David's confidence had a reason. The Lord was his light, salvation, and strength. He was not claiming that enemies were imaginary or that faithful people never feel afraid. He was looking beyond the threat to the God upon whom he depended.

Bring fear into the light instead of hiding it behind anger or embarrassment. Tell a trustworthy adult when something troubles you, especially when safety is involved. Seeking wise protection does not contradict faith. The Lord often provides help through responsible people and practical action.

Let Scripture give your thoughts a sound place to return. Remember who God is, take the step that belongs to you, and leave what you cannot control in His hands. Courage may look like asking for help, telling the truth, or entering a hard situation with proper support. It does not require the complete absence of nervousness. It requires a stronger foundation than nervousness can provide.

Keep the passage in context

David confesses confidence in the LORD while facing real threats. His courage grows from God's character rather than from pretending danger does not exist.
