Rest for the Person Who Is Tired of Proving Himself
Written for Bible Journey Plan. Our editorial standards.
Come unto me, all ye that labour and are heavy laden, and I will give you rest.
Matthew 11:28 KJV
Trying to prove your worth can become exhausting. There is always another comparison, another mistake to hide, or another person whose approval seems necessary. Jesus invites burdened people to come to Him.
His invitation reaches deeper than a short break from a busy schedule. Sinners need the rest that comes through trusting the Saviour instead of trying to establish their own righteousness. Christ provides salvation by grace, and no amount of personal performance can replace His finished work.
Coming to Him also begins a life of learning. His yoke is not an invitation to avoid every responsibility. It places us under the care and instruction of a gentle, faithful Lord. We can obey without making each success a payment for acceptance.
Take your weariness seriously and seek appropriate help with heavy demands. Rest, honest conversation, and sensible limits can all be needed. Above all, stop asking achievement to give what only Christ can provide. You are not saved by becoming impressive enough. Come to the One who knows your need and is able to meet it with a grace stronger than your ability to keep proving yourself.
