Do Not Let Envy Choose Your Direction

Fret not thyself because of evildoers, neither be thou envious against the workers of iniquity.
Psalm 37:1 KJV
It can be discouraging when a dishonest person appears to get ahead. Someone cheats and receives praise, spreads a rumor and gains attention, or ignores a responsibility without an obvious consequence. Envy begins whispering that obedience has put you at a disadvantage.
Psalm 37 directs our attention away from that narrow view. The present appearance of success does not tell the whole story. God sees accurately, and wrongdoing does not become wise because it seems profitable for a while.
Keep doing the responsibility that belongs to you. Report serious misconduct through appropriate channels, but do not allow resentment to become your daily occupation. Rehearsing another person's apparent advantage can slowly train your heart to desire the very behavior you know is wrong.
Faithfulness is worthwhile because the Lord is worthy of obedience. A fair grade, an honest friendship, or a clean conscience may receive little applause, yet each matters. Trust God with the outcome while acting responsibly in the situation. You do not need to borrow someone else's disobedience in order to have a worthwhile future. The path of integrity remains good even when comparison makes it look slower.
Keep the passage in context
David warns against fretting over evildoers or envying those who do wrong. The psalm calls God's people to trust Him and continue in what is good.
