More Than a Good Record
For by grace are ye saved through faith; and that not of yourselves: it is the gift of God: Not of works, lest any man should boast. For we are his workmanship, created in Christ Jesus unto good works, which God hath before ordained that we should walk in them.

You can build a strong reputation and still misunderstand the gospel. Good grades, helping at church, and avoiding trouble are worthwhile, but none can make a sinner righteous before God. Ephesians 2 closes the door on that kind of boasting.
Grace is God's undeserved favor. Faith receives Christ rather than presenting a record for approval. Jesus died for our sins and rose again; His work is sufficient. Salvation is not a combination of His sacrifice and your ability to remain impressive.
Verse 10 also matters. Those saved by grace are created in Christ Jesus unto good works. Obedience has a place, but that place comes after new life, not before it as a payment. Serve willingly this week. When you fail, confess honestly. In both moments, remember that Christ is the Saviour, not your performance.
Keep the passage in context
Paul first describes our need as sinners and then explains God's mercy. Salvation is His gift, received through faith, not earned by works. Good works follow new life in Christ; they do not buy it.
