Strength That Can Be Governed

Blessed are the meek: for they shall inherit the earth.
Matthew 5:5 KJV
The loudest response is not always the strongest one. Someone may win attention by interrupting, mocking, or refusing to back down, yet still be unable to govern a temper. Meekness brings strength under the direction of truth.
Jesus was meek, and He spoke clearly against sin. He did not confuse gentleness with dishonesty. We can learn from His example to respond firmly when necessary without making personal pride the center of the conversation.
At school or at home, pause before using every sharp answer that comes to mind. Listen long enough to understand what has actually been said. A calm explanation may accomplish more than a sentence designed to embarrass the other person.
Meekness does not require accepting abuse or keeping dangerous behavior secret. Seek appropriate help and protection when needed. The point is to submit your conduct to God rather than let anger write the rules. You can be courageous, truthful, and gentle at the same time. The Lord values a heart willing to be governed by Him even when showing off would attract more immediate attention.
Keep the passage in context
Jesus calls the meek blessed. Meekness involves humble submission to God and does not require approving wrongdoing or abandoning truthful courage.
