Peace That Tells the Truth

Written for Bible Journey Plan. Our editorial standards.

Blessed are the peacemakers: for they shall be called the children of God.

Matthew 5:9 KJV

A disagreement can become larger when each person gathers an audience. Retelling the story with a few sharper details may earn sympathy, but it usually makes a peaceful resolution harder.

A peacemaker does not feed that process. Refuse to spread a report you do not need to repeat. Encourage the people involved to speak honestly and seek appropriate help. If you caused harm, admit your part without attaching an accusation to every sentence.

Peace requires truth. Calling a serious problem harmless does not resolve it, and asking someone to hide mistreatment protects the wrong thing. In unsafe situations, a trusted adult needs to know. Reconciliation cannot be built upon continued deception.

The gospel shows us how costly true peace is. We are reconciled to God through Jesus Christ, not through pretending sin never mattered. Let His grace shape your conduct with others. Speak in a way that makes understanding possible, take responsibility where you should, and resist the enjoyment of keeping an argument alive. Quiet, truthful work toward peace is a valuable form of Christian courage.

Keep the passage in context

Jesus pronounces a blessing upon peacemakers. Biblical peace is consistent with God's truth and does not depend upon covering sin or pressuring an injured person into silence.
