Unashamed of the Gospel

Written for Bible Journey Plan. Our editorial standards.

For I am not ashamed of the gospel of Christ: for it is the power of God unto salvation to every one that believeth; to the Jew first, and also to the Greek.

Romans 1:16 KJV

You may find it easy to mention church activities and harder to speak plainly about Jesus Christ. The gospel makes a claim that reaches every person: we are sinners, and Christ is the Saviour we need. That truth can feel uncomfortable in a conversation where everyone wants religion to remain a private preference.

Paul was not ashamed because he knew the gospel's source and purpose. Jesus died for our sins and rose again. Salvation is received by faith in Him, not earned through a good reputation. The message does not become weaker because the person sharing it is nervous.

Speak with kindness and accuracy. You do not need to mock someone else's beliefs or pretend you can answer every question immediately. Admit what you do not know and look to Scripture with trustworthy help.

Being unashamed is not the same as being loud or argumentative. A clear witness can be patient, humble, and steady. Let your confidence rest in Christ and His Word. The person listening needs the truth about the Saviour, and you can care about that person while refusing to hide the heart of the message.

Keep the passage in context

Paul declares confidence in the gospel as God's power unto salvation to everyone who believes. The message's strength rests in God rather than the speaker's popularity.
