What the Church Has to Offer

Written for Bible Journey Plan. Our editorial standards.

Then Peter said, Silver and gold have I none; but such as I have give I thee: In the name of Jesus Christ of Nazareth rise up and walk.

Acts 3:6 KJV

The man at the temple gate expected money. Peter had something different to give through the authority Christ had entrusted to His apostles. The healing that followed directed attention to Jesus, and Peter used the opportunity to proclaim the truth about Him.

We should not turn this account into a formula for guaranteeing physical healing whenever we speak the same words. Scripture records a real miracle in its particular setting. The Lord is able to heal, and His people should care for those who suffer, but His power is not ours to command.

The church still has a message no amount of money can replace. Sinners need Jesus Christ, who died and rose again. Practical help matters, and Christian love should be generous. The gospel must remain clear alongside that help.

When you serve someone, consider the whole person with humility. Offer appropriate assistance without pretending to know every reason for the difficulty. Keep your confidence in Christ rather than in a dramatic performance. The lasting treasure believers proclaim is the Saviour Himself, whose grace reaches a need deeper than any outward improvement alone can satisfy.

Keep the passage in context

Peter heals the lame man in the name of Jesus Christ through apostolic authority. The miracle points to the risen Lord and should not be turned into a promise that every Christian can command physical healing.
