Romans 12:10 KJV

This is an original fictional illustration, not a historical report or an added Bible event.

Caleb and his little sister Nora were helping Granddad water the beans. Caleb chose the biggest bucket because he wanted to carry the most water. He filled it right to the top and took three steps. Water splashed over his shoes.

Nora reached for the other handle. Caleb pulled it away. He wanted Granddad to see that he could do the job by himself. He tried again, but this time the bucket struck his knee. More water landed on the path than on the beans.

Granddad set down his small watering can. He pointed out that the bucket had two handles. Caleb looked at Nora. She was still standing beside him, holding an empty cup and waiting for something useful to do.

Caleb put the bucket down. He poured out a little water, gave Nora one handle, and took the other. They walked slowly together. When they reached the garden, Caleb helped her tip her side. The water soaked into the dry soil around the first row.

Granddad thanked both children. Caleb started to explain that the bucket had been his idea. Then he stopped and told Granddad how carefully Nora had carried her side. She smiled and reached for the handle again.

They made four more trips before the beans had enough water. Caleb's shoes were still wet, but he no longer minded sharing the work or the thanks. God's Word teaches us to honor others. There is room beside us for someone else's help and someone else's gladness.
