Every morning, Peter filled the dog's water bowl. It sat behind the shed where nobody at the breakfast table could see it. His older sister received a prize at school that week, and Peter wondered if his small job mattered at all.
Dad walked outside with him and watched the dog drink. The job mattered to a living creature that needed water. Dad thanked Peter for being faithful.
The Bible teaches believers that work done in the Lord is not wasted. Jesus rose from the dead, and serving Him has lasting value. Peter did not need a prize for every filled bowl. He could do the work carefully because it was useful and right. Dad's thank-you helped him remember what had been true even before anyone said it.
A small step for today
Doing a helpful job can matter even when nobody notices. Keep serving the Lord with care. Paul wrote these words after teaching about Jesus' resurrection. Our hope is bigger than the praise we receive today. Finish the useful task, encourage someone, and remember that faithfulness is worthwhile even when the result seems small.
