The Windy Kite Day

Written for Bible Journey Plan. Our editorial standards.

What time I am afraid, I will trust in thee.

Psalm 56:3 KJV

This is an original fictional illustration, not a historical report or an added Bible event.

The kite climbed higher than Maisie expected. A sudden gust pulled the string tight, and she felt it tug against her hands. She remembered a kite she had lost the year before and began to cry.

Dad stood beside her and held the spool with her. He did not laugh or tell her that the wind was imaginary. They moved farther from the trees and let out the string slowly. When another gust came, Maisie kept both hands where Dad had shown her.

After a few minutes she could feel the difference between a strong pull and a loose string. Dad stayed close while she tried holding the spool by herself again. The kite dipped once, then lifted above the field.

On the way home, Maisie admitted that she had been frightened even while Dad was helping. He told her that being brave did not mean she had felt nothing. She had accepted help and followed safe instructions while she was afraid.

That evening they read David's words about trusting God in fear. The Lord is greater than an earthly father, and His wisdom is always right. We can tell Him the truth about what frightens us and depend upon His care.

Maisie hung the kite in the cupboard for another day. She still remembered the strong wind, but she also remembered the help beside her. Fear did not have to decide every choice she made next.

For the grown-up reading along

David speaks of trusting God when he is afraid. Faith does not require pretending fear is absent; it turns toward the Lord in the middle of it.
