A Secure Place in the Saviour

Written for Bible Journey Plan. Our editorial standards.

There is therefore now no condemnation to them which are in Christ Jesus, who walk not after the flesh, but after the Spirit.

Romans 8:1 KJV

The words in Christ Jesus are central to this verse. Our safety before God does not come from pretending sin is unimportant. It comes from belonging to the Saviour who dealt with sin through His death and resurrection.

A believer should take wrongdoing seriously and confess it honestly. Yet the answer to failure is not to imagine that a week of impressive behavior can become a new saviour. Christ alone is sufficient. His grace also teaches His people to turn from the sin that harms their lives and dishonors Him.

Read the surrounding chapter rather than lifting one line away from its teaching. Romans 8 describes the Holy Spirit's work, the believer's hope, and God's faithful care amid suffering. The Christian life is more than a comforting sentence placed over choices we refuse to change.

If you are uncertain about the gospel, speak with a trustworthy pastor or Bible teacher and examine Scripture carefully. Confidence should rest on Christ and His promises, not on pressure to sound certain. The Lord provides truth strong enough to trust and clear enough to guide the next obedient step.

Keep the passage in context

Paul announces freedom from condemnation for those in Christ Jesus. The chapter connects that standing with the Spirit's work and a life directed toward God.
