A Mind Learning a Different Pattern

Written for Bible Journey Plan. Our editorial standards.

And be not conformed to this world: but be ye transformed by the renewing of your mind, that ye may prove what is that good, and acceptable, and perfect, will of God.

Romans 12:2 KJV

A repeated pattern can begin to feel normal simply because it is familiar. You may hear so many jokes about dishonesty that cheating seems harmless, or so many comparisons that a person's worth appears to depend on clothing and popularity. Scripture gives a different measure.

A renewed mind learns to see choices in the light of God's truth. This takes more than adding a religious phrase to an opinion you have already decided to keep. Read, listen, and allow the Bible to correct the way you think.

Choose influences thoughtfully. You can care about people without accepting every message they repeat. When a habit keeps pulling your thoughts toward cruelty, impurity, pride, or deceit, bring it into the light and seek appropriate help.

God's will is not discovered by treating every feeling as a private instruction. Begin with the clear truth He has written. Faithful thinking grows through receiving and obeying it. Over time, ordinary decisions can show a different pattern because the mind behind them is learning to value what pleases the Lord.

Keep the passage in context

Paul calls believers to resist conformity to this world and be transformed through the renewing of the mind. Their thinking should be shaped by God's truth as they discern His will.
