The youth group collected supplies for a family whose house had burned. Daniel had saved enough to buy several notebooks and a backpack. He wanted to help, but he also imagined everyone praising his large bag of supplies.
His father helped him carry it to the collection table early. They left it with the other gifts and went to set up chairs. Daniel discovered that the family could receive the same help whether the room knew his name or not.
Paul teaches purposeful, cheerful giving. He does not forbid others from knowing we gave, but the purpose should be love and obedience rather than attention. Daniel's gift was useful because a child needed school supplies. The quiet delivery helped him keep that need in view. Giving became simpler when he stopped making his own reputation part of the package.
Bring the truth into your day
Paul's instruction belongs to a collection for believers in need. The giver is to decide thoughtfully and give willingly, without pressure. Learn to plan generosity within what has been entrusted to you, and seek a parent's guidance. Giving is not a way to buy a blessing or guarantee more money. Its purpose is to serve a real need with a heart that is glad to share.
