A prudent man foreseeth the evil, and hideth himself; but the simple pass on, and are punished.
Proverbs 27:12 KJV

The usual route to the sports field went around an old orchard. A narrow gap in the fence offered a shorter way, and several children had begun using it after school. Daniel liked reaching the field before the teams were chosen.
One afternoon a sign appeared beside the gap. It warned that damaged branches could fall after the recent storm. Daniel's friend suggested hurrying through before anyone saw them. From the fence, most of the trees looked ordinary.
Daniel looked more carefully. A thick branch hung at an angle high above the track. Another lay in the grass where the children usually ran. He stepped back and said he would take the road. His friend complained that they would miss the first game.
They walked around the orchard together, though neither was cheerful at first. Near the proper entrance they met a worker carrying a safety helmet. He told them the damaged branches were being removed and thanked them for staying outside the marked area.
At the field, the game had already begun. Daniel waited for the next round. The delay was disappointing, but it was smaller than the danger he had nearly ignored. Later they heard equipment working inside the orchard and saw a large broken branch lowered to the ground.
Daniel realized that he had been tempted to call caution foolish simply because it cost him something he wanted. The warning had not been placed there to spoil his afternoon. It described a danger he could not judge properly by glancing through the fence.
God's Word praises prudent care. Faith does not require us to dismiss a sound warning or impress friends by entering an unsafe place. We can trust the Lord while using the judgment and help He provides. Sometimes the wise choice adds a few minutes to the walk. Daniel reached the field safely, and the next game gave him a chance to play without making an unnecessary risk part of the journey.
Keep the passage in context
Proverbs commends recognizing danger and taking appropriate shelter. Wisdom pays attention to a real warning instead of treating avoidable harm as proof of courage.
