Fruit in a Later Season
Written for Bible Journey Plan. Our editorial standards.
They shall still bring forth fruit in old age; they shall be fat and flourishing;
Psalm 92:14 KJV
Later years can bring a different pace and a different kind of work. Some responsibilities end, others change, and the abilities once used easily may require more care. A couple can feel uncertain about where usefulness now belongs.
Psalm 92 gives a hopeful picture of continuing fruit. The Lord's work in His people is not finished because a familiar role has ended. Wisdom, kindness, faithful witness, and patient encouragement remain valuable.
Look for service suited to present strength. A conversation, a note, a modest practical task, or time spent teaching a younger person can matter deeply. Do not measure every opportunity against the busiest season of your life.
Receive limitations truthfully and seek needed care. This verse should not be used to shame someone whose health makes activity difficult. Fruitfulness begins in belonging to the Lord, and He knows the circumstances fully. Encourage your spouse in the useful work available now. A later season can hold a quiet richness when it is received with gratitude and lived without the demand to reproduce every strength of the years that came before.
Keep the passage in context
The psalm describes the continued fruitfulness of the righteous in old age. Its picture emphasizes lasting usefulness rooted in the LORD rather than a guarantee of unchanged physical strength.
