Grace Does Not Leave a Balance Due

Being justified freely by his grace through the redemption that is in Christ Jesus:

Romans 3:24 KJV

A gift can be difficult to receive if we keep looking for the obligation hidden behind it. We wonder what performance will be required later to make the giver satisfied. Some people carry that suspicion into their relationship with God.

Romans speaks of justification freely by grace. Christ's redemption is sufficient. Good works belong in the believer's life as grateful obedience, but they do not settle an unpaid part of the price of salvation.

Encourage your spouse with that distinction when failure produces fear about God's acceptance. Confession and change are necessary responses to sin. Trying to punish oneself into worthiness is not a substitute for trusting the Saviour.

Let grace shape the way you offer kindness as well. A helpful act should not always arrive with an unspoken demand for repayment. Shared duties still need a fair arrangement, and harmful conduct must be addressed. Within that truth, give some care freely. The gospel teaches us that the greatest gift was never something we could purchase, and gratitude for it can make the ordinary love of marriage less crowded by the constant need to collect what we think we are owed.

Keep the passage in context

Paul describes believers as justified freely by God's grace through the redemption in Christ Jesus. Acceptance rests upon the Saviour's work rather than a remaining human payment.
