Honest Gain Is Worth Keeping

Written for Bible Journey Plan. Our editorial standards.

Better is a little with righteousness than great revenues without right.

Proverbs 16:8 KJV

A financial opportunity may look attractive until the details are examined. Perhaps a report must be altered, a customer misled, or a promise quietly ignored. The pressure can feel stronger when household bills are waiting.

Agree as a couple that dishonesty is not part of the provision you are seeking. Do not ask one another to compromise conscience for a more comfortable result. The Lord's instruction does not become less relevant because a dishonest arrangement appears profitable.

If you discover wrongdoing in your own affairs, seek sound advice about correcting it. Be truthful with your spouse and address the actual consequences. Concealment usually makes both the practical and relational damage harder to repair.

There is no promise here that honest people will always have more money. The proverb gives us a better way to evaluate what we have. A smaller income received with integrity can be handled without the burden of maintaining a lie. Encourage each other toward faithful work, prudent planning, and patient trust. Shared commitment to righteousness is a valuable protection when a tempting shortcut begins presenting itself as the only way forward.

Keep the passage in context

The proverb values a little with righteousness above great revenues gained unjustly. Integrity provides a better standard than the size of the return.
