Keep Sowing while the Eyes Are Wet

Written for Bible Journey Plan. Our editorial standards.

They that sow in tears shall reap in joy.

Psalm 126:5 KJV

Sorrow does not always stop ordinary responsibilities. Meals still need preparing, children need care, and a necessary task may arrive on a day when strength feels very small.

The image of sowing with tears recognizes that work and grief can exist together. We should not require a cheerful appearance before valuing a faithful effort. Sometimes the important thing is that a person continued with the responsibility they could carry.

Help your spouse distinguish what must be done from what can wait. Reduce unnecessary demands and offer practical support. No one should have to prove faithfulness by maintaining every previous activity during a season of loss.

This verse is not a timetable for how quickly grief will turn into visible success. It gives a picture of hope under God's care. Believers can trust Him with labor that feels small and costly. Notice that labor in one another. A quiet act of service performed through tears may express a depth of faith that a confident speech would never reveal. Let patience accompany the work until joy has room to return in the Lord's wise time.

Keep the passage in context

The psalm connects tears with the hope of joyful harvest in a setting of restored fortunes and continued longing for God's help. The image encourages faithful hope through sorrow.
