A Precious Life at Its Earthly Close

Written for Bible Journey Plan. Our editorial standards.

Precious in the sight of the LORD is the death of his saints.

Psalm 116:15 KJV

Conversations about death are difficult, but avoiding them can leave a spouse with unnecessary confusion during an already painful time. Practical preparation can be an act of love.

Discuss important wishes, records, responsibilities, and appropriate care with suitable professional guidance. Keep the arrangements clear and accessible. Such planning does not demonstrate a lack of faith; it acknowledges the ordinary responsibility of caring for those who may remain.

The greater preparation concerns our relationship with God. Salvation rests in personal faith in Jesus Christ, who died for our sins and rose again. Family affection cannot provide that assurance in place of the Saviour.

Psalm 116 reminds believers that their lives and deaths matter to the Lord. His care does not end at the point where ours becomes unable to change the outcome. Let that truth bring reverence and hope to necessary conversations. You do not have to solve every feeling before speaking kindly about the future. Honest preparation can give a spouse practical help, while a clear gospel points both of you toward the only sure foundation for eternal hope.

Keep the passage in context

The psalm declares the death of the LORD's saints precious in His sight. God's regard for His people continues through death, which He does not treat as an insignificant event.
