Put on therefore, as the elect of God, holy and beloved, bowels of mercies, kindness, humbleness of mind, meekness, longsuffering;
Colossians 3:12 KJV
Routine can make a spouse familiar enough to overlook. We reserve our most careful manners for visitors and offer the person at home whatever tone remains after the day has worn us down.
Christian kindness belongs in familiar rooms. Greet your spouse with attention, make a request courteously, and listen without treating the answer as an interruption. Small habits shape the daily experience of being married.
Tenderness does not require a constant cheerful mood. You can explain that you are tired or burdened while still speaking respectfully. Honest weakness and considerate conduct can exist together.
The qualities Paul names are rooted in belonging to God. Believers are learning to live consistently with the grace they have received. Depend upon that grace in the ordinary exchanges that are easy to dismiss as unimportant. If harshness has become habitual, acknowledge it and begin changing a specific response. A marriage is built from many repeated moments. Kindness practiced within those moments can make home a place where familiarity deepens care instead of gradually excusing its absence.
Keep the passage in context
Paul calls those who belong to God to put on mercies, kindness, humility, meekness, and patience. These qualities express a life shaped by grace.
