Learn and Serve Side by Side

And he began to speak boldly in the synagogue: whom when Aquila and Priscilla had heard, they took him unto them, and expounded unto him the way of God more perfectly.

Acts 18:26 KJV

Aquila and Priscilla provide a useful picture of a couple serving together. They listened carefully enough to recognize both the value of Apollos's ministry and the need for further instruction. Then they gave personal help.

Shared service begins with shared attention to Scripture. Learn together, remain teachable, and resist the idea that marriage requires both people to have identical abilities. Different strengths can serve the same faithful purpose.

Notice the manner of their help. They took Apollos unto them and explained more fully. We should be careful about correcting someone mainly to display how much we know. Truth is precious enough to be taught with patience.

Look for an appropriate way to serve together in your local church or community. Let the work fit your abilities and responsibilities. A couple does not need a public platform to be useful. Careful hospitality, practical assistance, and a truthful conversation may strengthen someone whose future service reaches farther than you will ever see. Learn humbly, help wisely, and let the Lord determine the reach of what you have faithfully offered.

Keep the passage in context

Aquila and Priscilla hear Apollos and explain the way of God to him more accurately. Their instruction addresses a real gap in understanding without making public humiliation the goal.
