Leave a Record of Trust

Written for Bible Journey Plan. Our editorial standards.

That they might set their hope in God, and not forget the works of God, but keep his commandments:

Psalm 78:7 KJV

A family legacy is larger than possessions. It includes the habits, words, and priorities that remain in other people's memories. A couple can leave a useful record through the way they respond to ordinary life.

Let that record point toward God. Keep the gospel clear, tell the truth, and acknowledge His provision without exaggeration. When you fail, allow others to see a responsible apology and a changed course.

Avoid trying to preserve a flawless family image. That can make honest questions feel disloyal and leave the next generation unprepared for its own difficulties. A truthful account of grace is stronger than a legend of people who never needed much of it.

Psalm 78 gives the purpose: hope in God and obedience to His Word. Your marriage can contribute to that purpose through steady, imperfect faithfulness. Tend the relationship, serve people, and remain teachable. The most valuable part of what you leave may be the memory that Scripture was taken seriously, mercy was needed, and the Lord was trusted even when the household did not have every answer ready.

Keep the passage in context

The psalm explains that teaching God's works and commands should lead the next generation to set their hope in Him. Remembrance serves trust and obedience.
